Type Design Analysis and Redesign

Timeline 2 days

For this particular assignment, the task was to analyze any platform that could benefit from an interface improvement, with the constraint of not changing its colors or branding. Goodreads is a platform for readers to discover books and enhance their reading experience. I have been using the platform for a while, but I haven’t been satisfied with it and that is why I choose to review it.

Challenge

There are opportunities for improvement in several areas of the platform, such as revisiting the hierarchy of feature navigation, refining component alignment, better utilizing white space, and providing a general visual update, as the current design looks outdated. Most of the Goodreads reviews I researched focus on its usability and user experience, which I might explore further in a UX review. However, this focuses solely on making slight improvements to the interface without changing the features.

Impact

  1. Improved clarity on the left toolbar, allowing the user to immediately understand the available actions.

  2. Enhanced consistency across the entire platform, particularly in typography, icons, and overall UI style.

  3. Better utilization of the space on the right to expand the feed and its information.
