RJ's City Guide is the name I gave to my publication for this project. As a newcomer to Canada, specifically Vancouver, I was still exploring the city. Since I was a student and working, most of the places I went to were only accessible by transit and the amazing possibilities the U-Pass gives students. I created a guide with my favourite places by then and also as a "souvenir" of my first months here.
The 'typezine' was an exploratory project for the course of Advanced Typography in the Post-degree Diploma of Web and Mobile App Design and Development. The goal was to explore Adobe InDesign and to create a magazine using different typefaces.
I started by sketching some layouts and solutions, which is how I usually start any project to organize the ideas and thoughts I have about it. Then, I started to collect materials related to the subjects I wanted to show and write about in the magazine: typefaces, texts, pictures and so on. I took my partner with me to help taking pictures and to enjoy some of the places I wanted to put on the content of the magazine. Once I had all the material, I started editing the pictures in Photoshp and creating the file in InDesign, which took me 2 days.
I have learned InDesign very thoroughly by watching tutorials.
I have learned to experiment with typefaces, specifically with Ellen Lupton's books, which is something I was a little apprehensive about.
I had fun writing about, taking pictures and collecting visuals for the places I like in Vancouver.
