Uniteer is a mobile app to manage children’s activities, supporting both parents and volunteers as the main users. Volunteers and organizations will use the app to consolidate and manage information for specific groups. Parents will utilize the app to monitor their children’s development in those groups, receive immediate updates and manage their schedule related to those events.

Challenge

Challenge

For this capstone project, the group had to develop a native mobile app. We decided to use React Native and the EXPO framework to develop a mobile application compatible with both iOS and Android platforms. For the design part, the team used mainly Figma, Adobe creative suite and Lottie Files.

Impact

Impact

From a strategic and business perspective, Uniteer is the most comprehensive platform within its 3 main competitors. It is the only app with a panel for children's' activities overview and security features.

The same benefits that make it more attractive on the business side are also favourable to a better user and customer experience. Keeping information and identity protected is imperative to parents and being able to manage everything in the same app is something all the interviewed target users haven't experienced before.

Lessons

Lessons

Lessons

  1. Honest and transparent communication, paired with an agile methodology, ensured better task distribution by defining each member's availability and goals from the start.

  2. To create a seamless user experience, we followed the five elements of UX design approach. From strategy to surface, the team prototyped, tested, and iterated, resulting in an MVP developed collaboratively with a focus on continuous improvement. We moved forward with deliverables based on a shared understanding that decisions could be revisited in the future, allowing for iterations of the prototype.

  3. Interviewing and testing with parents and volunteers was crucial, as some assumptions were not confirmed during this process and we changed the features. Analyzing the app from a gaming perspective and considering user emotions were also vital to its development.
